Podcasting is defined by the conversational dynamic between participants compared to the stricter rules and repetition required in traditional radio.

“it's a dynamic and sort of a tennis match versus radio was like you sit there I'll talk at you for a little bit then you plug your [ __ ] and you talk back at me but it wasn't that kind of Dynamic where you're literally freestyling together”

He believes the podcast was successful because it launched at an early stage in the medium's development without much competition.

“So it was so much easier to kind of rise in the ranks and stand out. Whereas now it's so saturated like >> we're the beneficiaries of of like right place, right time.”

James Carter views the origins of podcasting as an amateur-led community rather than a corporate endeavor.

“it was a very sort of amateur Affair um back in those days um there were no professional podcasts at all um and uh certainly no sort of Corporations producing podcasts”
