He supports the assisted dying bill as it has gone through the House of Commons and believes it is being improperly blocked in the House of Lords.

“I am in favor of Chem Lead Beater's assisted dying bill. You were against largely because of your fear that people might be coerced. >> Yeah. Um, now I think a lot of those concerns have been addressed in the bill as it's gone through the House of Commons, but I'm more interested in what's happening”

He remains cautious about assisted dying legislation due to concerns that it could put vulnerable individuals at risk of feeling pressured to end their lives.

“I still can't bear the idea that someone might say I don't want to be a burden and you know, maybe I so that's where I am.”

The implementation of state-sanctioned assisted dying systems inevitably leads to negative societal consequences and harms for vulnerable people, regardless of individual autonomy.

“So, we need to look at what happens when assisted dying hap- uh gets embedded, as it does, in uh processes, policies, wider social attitudes, and what happens to society when it does.”

Legalizing assisted dying risks causing serious harm to vulnerable groups, including those subject to coercive control, and lacks reliable safeguards.

“but I don't think you can legalize assisted dying for that specific group of people without sucking in vulnerable people um into a system that means that actually people will end up losing their lives in a way that is sanctioned by the state, in a way that's wrongful.”

Individuals have an inherent right to autonomy and should have the option of assisted dying if they determine their own life to be intolerably diminished.

“And I think at the end of the day this is where the kind of crux of the matter lies between a sort of communitarian argument that you always owe yourself to other people and a liberal argument that on all locations you don't owe yourself always to other people that you have some inherent rights”

Assisted dying is a compassionate option that should be available to terminally ill individuals to prevent unnecessary suffering at the end of life.

“And that's why assisted dying should be an option for all of us.”
