Civil servants serve the public interest and their primary role is to provide the best possible advice to elected officials regardless of which party is in government.

Bhana Sidhu believes that serving the needy and those poorer than oneself is a fundamental human and religious duty, regardless of formal political involvement.

Government departments and civil servants function better when ministers provide clear leadership, make decisive choices, and are open to alternative advice.

“The Tony Blair said in his last conference speech as prime minister the worst ministers are those who will never make a decision and we all know them and you you've got to have an idea of what you want to do and you've got to be able to make a decision even if it's a difficult one”

Public service should focus on respecting the contribution of individuals rather than just prioritizing redistribution.

“for too long our plan for most of the country has been one word redistribution and my government is going to respect the contribution that people have to make”

Political roles should not be pursued for the sake of personal popularity, but rather as an act of service centered on making meaningful improvements to people's lives and the direction of the country

“You don't get into this job because you want to be popular or you want to be liked, or if you do, you're in for a rude awakening because that's not what this job is all about. That's not what this life is all about. This is about service.”
