If humanity possesses the technological capability to terraform Mars, it would also have the ability to address Earth's environmental challenges.

“if you have the power of geoengineering to terraform Mars, then you have the power of in geoengineering to fix Earth and turn Earth back into Earth as opposed to Mars back into Earth.”

The potential existence of large-scale geoengineering technology poses a risk that fossil fuel industries will use it as a justification to continue emissions.

“I think the danger that many people see is that once you have anything that's viable on a geoengineering scale, which we're nowhere near, by the way, but once you do that, fossil fuel companies will then use that as a cudgel to say we can keep burning fuel”

Geoengineering is not a advisable approach to climate change because the Earth's atmospheric systems are too complex to safely manipulate.

“If it's a lasted ditch effort because otherwise earth is going to just be totally hosed then we would probably be justified in trying something like that but in any other situation it's really not a good idea to mess with mother nature”
