Krystal Ball argues that Democratic leadership failed to use the shutdown to achieve their stated goals and that their capitulation has only increased frustration among the party's base.

“you did the longest shutdown in history to get literally nothing right after you had some of the most decisive electoral results that I've seen in my lifetime.”

Emily Jashinsky observes that Democratic leadership ended the shutdown without securing any policy wins, which she believes has negatively impacted their standing with voters.

“They got nothing out of it. They got some fundraising out of it. I'm sure they got some energy from organizing and all of that out of it, sure. But people wanted a whole lot more. And now rather than staving that off, it's stoked the fire even more.”

The Democratic Party is fully responsible for the government shutdown as a failed political strategy that ultimately yielded them no results.

“So, this was completely on the Democrats. I hate to say it, but Michael Douglas' son was wrong. And nothing they got nothing out of it other than the the few Democrats that jumped across the aisle to do the right thing will now pay the price with the lunatic radical base.”

Charlamagne tha God claims that the Democratic Party lost the government shutdown fight because the Republicans achieved their goals in the spending bill without making any concessions.

“But as I was saying last week, Mimi, I think Democrats lost. And the reason they lost is because Republicans already got everything they wanted in this big beautiful bill in regards to healthcare. So, why would they ever make any concessions?”

The government shutdown was fundamentally flawed as a strategy because it lacked a realistic endgame for achieving legislative goals.

“I mean, I think the fatal flaw in this uh whole shutdown was the lack of a realistic endgame, and that was always been the case. And I think government shutdowns, historically speaking, have never been great ways to get legislative victories.”

He claims that the government shutdown is a deliberate political tactic by Republicans to create suffering as leverage to dismantle healthcare subsidies.

“The pain is the goal because they need the ACA to feel unaffordable for people so that it becomes less popular so that Republicans have a political cover to hobble it. They want to make this as painful as possible because that would be a pretext to open the government without any healthcare assuranc”

Democrats should clearly articulate that Republicans are responsible for the government shutdown because they abandoned their legislative duties.

“If you're a political party and you find yourself in this situation, that's what you say. Also has the very easy um uh convenient advantage of being completely true >> that the Republicans have been awall for six weeks largely because they're afraid, I think, of uh of of the Epstein files.”

Steve Cohen claims the government shutdown is a deliberate act of political hostage-taking by the Trump administration rather than legitimate governance.

“Definitely the the SNAP payment was was hostage taking, I think, in and cutting out 10% of the airflights tomorrow is hostage taking. Uh he just doesn't want to negotiate.”

Republicans are deliberately creating a government shutdown to avoid addressing the needs of Americans struggling with healthcare and food insecurity.

“At a time when 4 million Americans are in danger of losing their health care, when the federal government is choosing to price hungry Americans across this country out of their very groceries, their focus is to take on the Muslim guy who won the Democratic primary by 13 points.”
