Jon Lovett argues that nonviolent, organized protest movements are essential for effective political change.

“But the way we show that this movement is uh uh largely peaceful, non-violent with specific goals and aims is for everyone to come be a part of it and show just by numbers.”

He argues that his protest movements were a necessary grassroots reaction to government and media complicity in the face of local crime and terrorism.

“Men took to the city of every town and city. We built a date. We built a network in every town and city of young men and it look they give us criticism. It wasn't going to be doctors or nurses. I keep that was going to stand up for this. It was going to be young English men”

He believes that there is nothing more American than seizing an opportunity to acquire assets when it presents itself during these demonstrations.

“there is nothing more American than seizing the opportunity to grab those assets for yourself and take them for yourself”

A movement is more likely to succeed if it maintains diverse participation, leverages that to induce defections from the opponent's pillars of support, switches tactics, and stays disciplined.

“there are really four things that make movements more likely to succeed than others. The first is very large and diverse participation that builds momentum. The second is uh the ability to leverage that participation into creating defections within the opponent's pillars of support”
