She believes that Scottish independence is the only way to ensure the country is not governed by leaders like Margaret Thatcher whom the Scottish people did not vote for.

“It seemed to me that the only way we could ensure as a country that we didn't have the Margaret Thatchers of this world governing us, it wasn't vote labor because Scotland effectively did that anyway. It was only by becoming independent and choosing our own governments.”

Scotland would benefit from independence by having full control over economic, monetary, and fiscal levers to address domestic challenges.

John Swinney believes that independence would allow Scotland to pursue an outward-looking future, establish partnerships with Europe, and avoid the rightward political drift seen in the UK.

“What I'm talking about is a vision of a Scotland that's actually outwardlooking that is reaching out to other communities is establishing partnerships with Europe. That's what I want to make sure is the Scotland of the future.”
