“Never before in American history have so few people had so much wealth and power. Never before. The truth is that the 1%, the people on top, people who are running this country, have never, ever had it so good.”

The wealthiest individuals in America are currently paying an insufficient amount in taxes.

“if you're asking me the question, are the wealthiest people in America right now paying too much tax or too little tax? I would say the wealthiest are paying too little tax.”

The current level of income inequality in the United States is unsustainable and threatens the stability of the economy.

“but as you know really well, income inequality in this company, the gap between the the richest like percent of this economy and 99.9% of the rest of the people is growing and getting bigger and it's it's just not sustainable. It's not tenable.”

James Meadway argues that modern economic inequality is increasingly driven by large corporations profiteering from climate change at the expense of farmers and the public.

“This is the new kind of inequality we're starting to see. Now, that's kind of terrifying cuz it's climate change, but there's something you can do about it cuz it's also capitalism that's sitting on top of that.”

Systemic inequality is the root cause of political instability and the rise of the far right.

“I look at the economy. I look at how the far right are doing in this country. And really at the heart of it is inequality.”

The middle class is struggling due to government-enforced economic interventions rather than free-market dynamics.

“The wealth transfers aren't just taking They're not taking place from the capitalist system, man. They're taking place before your very eyes and they're presented to you as a gift.”

Government spending on overseas wars causes economic suffering for American workers and diverts funds from domestic needs.

“Not only are American servicemen and women losing their lives overseas, but then of course that economic pain that we are suffering here. Whether it's the gas prices, which I know that we're all seeing, go up seemingly in real time. You'll be sitting there pumping gas and almost watching that price ”

Geena feels that she and her husband should be more equal regarding their financial situation and wants to see less discrepancy between them.

“he's not in his 20s and I want him to I want us to be more equals in this way I I want to I feel like there's such a there's such a discrepancy you know”

James experiences feelings of inadequacy and being left behind because he cannot contribute to their finances in the same way his wife does.

“and because I'm not able to contribute in the same way or in similar ways therefore I just feel like I'm not enough it feels like you know doesn't feel great”
