Dish’s first ever resident sommelier has entered the chat. Jodie Whittaker joins Nick and Angela in the Dish studio this week with the perfect approach to lunch: starving, curious, and opinionated about her wines! Known for her roles in Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Toxic Town and Frauds, Jodie stops by to chat about her latest appearance in Dear England, the TV adaptation of the hit stage show following Gareth Southgate’s time as England manager. The first two episodes are on BBC iPlayer now, with the final parts airing on May 30 and 31. With the UK heatwave currently doing its best impression of the Amalfi Coast, the trio kick things off with Hugo Spritzes before Angela serves Diana Henry’s recipe for tagliatelle with asparagus, peas, shallots & capers. Light, creamy, and very much in Jodie’s wheelhouse, it may just convince her to branch out from her signature “posh pasta”, a.k.a. crab linguine. And with Whittaker now in her sommelier era, it was only fitting she selected today’s wine pairing. Jodie opts for a glass of the Loved & Found Carricante, although the No.1 Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rosé Provence and the Loved & Found Grolleau Gris are tough competition. A firm believer that being a dinner party guest is always better than hosting, Jodie is completely at home at the Dish table. We hear about her dream glam gastropub complete with chubby olives and moody lighting, the slightly chaotic sandwiches of her childhood and why yellow wine always wins. And because every good summer lunch deserves pudding, Angela rounds things off with a lemon thyme, honey & polenta cake that goes down an absolute treat.
