The deadlock centers on dueling psychiatric experts. Both sides examined Lindsay Clancy, reviewed the same medical records, and reached opposite conclusions. Twelve people with no psychiatric training were asked to break that tie. They cannot. The arrest adds a layer of legal exposure. The judge had to question each juror individually.
