Anna Kepner’s cruise ship murder case has a new family-court fight involving Shauntel Hudson, Timothy Hudson’s mother and Anna’s stepmother. Shauntel is asking a judge to revisit child support she says Thomas Hudson failed to pay while their son faces a federal murder trial. According to Shauntel’s filing, Thomas originally agreed to pay $2,129 a month for three children. The amount later dropped as fewer children remained covered, reaching $1,092 for one child. Shauntel alleges there were months when Thomas paid nothing and says the amount should be recalculated because she believes he earns more. Thomas disputes both claims, and the judge has not ruled on the petition. That civil fight sits beside a second court filing that goes directly to Timothy’s defense. His federal public defenders asked for more time because, they say, family circumstances have limited their access to certain relatives. They are preparing for a Miller hearing, where a judge must consider a juvenile defendant’s background before imposing life without parole. None of the three assistant federal public defenders had previously handled a juvenile federal case. Judge Beth Bloom granted the unopposed continuance and moved the trial to November 2, 2026. The deadline for any plea agreement is October 23. Timothy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a second serious federal charge in Anna’s death aboard the Carnival Horizon. One court record says the defense needs family history. Another shows Timothy’s parents fighting over support while he remains in federal custody. The pressure is whether the defense can get the people and records it says it needs before those federal deadlines arrive.
