Lindsay Clancy picked up a phone and called a crisis line. She did it twice. Neither psychiatrist treating her found out until a defense attorney raised it in open court. Tony Brueski puts your questions to Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent who ran the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program. Those calls appear in Clancy's own civil filings, which describe a woman who recognized something was wrong and went looking for help. Dr. Jennifer Tufts, her outpatient psychiatrist, testified she was unaware of them. Dr. Alia Goodheart, who treated her at McLean Hospital, testified she did not know about them either. Goodheart also acknowledged on cross-examination that she does not think she has ever treated a patient with postpartum psychosis, and could not say how many patients with postpartum depression she had seen across twenty years. Both psychiatrists told the jury they observed no signs of psychosis. A separate prosecution witness, Dr. Sejal Shah of Brigham and Women's Hospital, evaluated Clancy days after the children died. On cross-examination Shah agreed a person can communicate and make plans while in a state of psychosis, and described Clancy as an honest patient. The listener mail splits hard here, and it is worth taking both halves seriously. One side reads two unanswered calls as proof the system never connected anything. The other reads two clinicians finding nothing as evidence there was nothing to find. She has pleaded not guilty. Three counts of first-degree murder, and she is presumed innocent unless the state proves its case. Prosecutors say she acted intentionally and that her providers are not to blame.
