One case is a mother in Massachusetts. The other is a disbarred lawyer in South Carolina. Segment one is the Lindsay Clancy trial. Two treating psychiatrists testified for the prosecution that they saw no signs of psychosis. One of them acknowledged she does not believe she has ever treated a patient with the condition the defense says Clancy had. A third prosecution witness, evaluating Clancy days after the children died, agreed on cross-examination that a person can communicate and make plans while psychotic. Segments two and three cover the Murdaugh retrial, where the fight is over paper rather than psychiatry. Alex Murdaugh chose to testify at his first trial and admitted under oath that he had lied to investigators for about eighteen months. Prosecutors want a new jury to hear all of it. His lawyers, meanwhile, want the state to search its own files again and put a signature on the result. Two rooms, one argument. In each, a professional under oath says there was nothing to find, and a defense says the looking was never done. A SLED agent told Murdaugh's first jury there was nothing whatsoever tying Curtis Eddie Smith to the killings. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and is presumed innocent. Her defense argues she lacked criminal responsibility. Murdaugh awaits a second trial with his convictions vacated and is presumed innocent, and he has denied the killings since 2021. He remains imprisoned on financial crimes he pleaded guilty to.
