In this interview, Dr. Rhonda Patrick talks to Dr. Frans Kuypers about his lab’s discovery on how the human placenta is a rich source of pluripotent stem cells and yet the placenta is thrown away after delivery. They discuss how his lab has shown that the stem cells from the placenta can be transformed into neuron-like cells, fat cells, bone cells, endothelial cells (relevant for lung and blood vessels), and liver cells. His lab also developed a technique for harvesting 5 to 7 times more hematopoietic stem cells from placenta than is currently retrieved from cord blood, a more standard, established source that is used worldwide for bone-marrow transplant. ▶︎ Get the show notes! https://www.foundmyfitness.com/episodes/frans-kuypers Sign-up for the weekly email newsletter: http://www.foundmyfitness.com/?sendme=omega-3 Crowdfund more videos: http://www.patreon.com/foundmyfitness Subscribe on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=foundmyfitness Subscribe to the podcast: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/foundmyfitness/id818198322 Twitter: http://twitter.com/foundmyfitness Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/foundmyfitness Chapters 00:00:00 - Introduction 00:02:22 - Stem cells 00:04:50 - Placental stem cells 00:11:20 - Freezing placentas 00:16:20 - Curing diseases 00:21:50 - Inducing stem cells 00:30:42 - Bain health 00:32:38 - Cellular communication 00:41:36 - Banking placentas 00:45:55 - Plasalus 00:53:30 - Research funding 00:57:28 - Resource-limited healthcare
