The Caleb Flynn trial started with prosecutors reading his texts to the jury, and the one sent hours before Ashley Flynn died named the date. Prosecutor Paul Watkins told jurors Caleb exchanged more than 100,000 messages with the woman he was having an affair with in the year before his wife died. One of them read "trying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail." His own attorney conceded the affair in her opening and called the messages ugly things he said to appease his mistress. Then the state's crime scene agent testified the garage door was damaged while it was already open and both locks were unlocked. A police dog found no trail leaving the house, and the only prints in the dew belonged to the handler. The deputy coroner described two close-range wounds behind Ashley's right ear while she lay in a sleeping position. Caleb told police he was lying down with his daughters when it happened; the agent said their bottom bunk was so packed with stuffed animals he didn't think two people could fit. Those daughters are on the witness list. Prosecutors asked for a screen so the girls wouldn't have to see their father, and the judge said no because the state offered no evidence these two children needed one and a defendant has the right to face his accusers. Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. The defense says police found the affair and worked backward. The state says the evidence only points one way. The daughters haven't taken the stand, and the state hasn't shown the device data it promised in opening. That's where this trial goes next.
