John is joined in conversation by Peter Hitchens to discuss the current leftist ideologies infiltrating western society, his understanding of the Ukrainian war, his insight into the future during a time of international unrest, and the decline of education in Britain. Once a correspondent living in Russia during the collapse of the Soviet Union; Peter reveals his critiques on the current state of political affairs in Russia and the rest of Europe. Peter Hitchens is a British journalist, author, and broadcaster. He currently writes for the Mail on Sunday, where he is a columnist and occasional foreign correspondent. He regularly engages with a great many topics in public debate on major television & radio networks and at universities around the world. Peter has just completed his tenth book, a critique of the modern British education system. His past works include The Abolition of Britain and The Rage Against God. A former Trotskyist, he partly attributes his return to Christian faith to his experience of socialism in practice, which he witnessed during his years reporting in Eastern Europe and later from Moscow during the collapse of the Soviet Union. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:32 Introduction 1:34 Moscow after the Soviet Union 7:44 The Marshall Plan 10:32 Russia at the start of democracy 11:24 The consequence of Prejudice 17:28 What the west could have done better after the Soviet Union 20:10 Media coverage of Ukraine 24:55 Outcome of the Ukrainian war 27:46 Critiques of both sides 31:35 Leadership of Ukraine 32:58 Personal consequences of war 35:03 Response from other powers 37:10 The use of nuclear weapons 38:08 China 39:56 Condemnation of oppressive regimes 42:51 The reality of democratisation of Russia and China 46:06 Russia-phobia 48:02 Our understanding of Russia 51:48 Ideologies in British education 58:09 The equality act and Christianity 1:01:54 Surveillance of thought 1:03:08 Peter’s outlook on the future of modern society 1:05:00 The dangerous idea 1:06:03 Conclusion -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conversations feature John Anderson, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, interviewing the world's foremost thought leaders about today's pressing social, cultural and political issues.
