Nick and Angela welcome a new recruit to the “I Cycled to Dish” club, as Sir Grayson Perry pedals his way to the Dish table. One of Britain’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Sir Grayson is a potter, writer, broadcaster and social commentator who shot to fame in 2003 as the first ceramicist to win the Turner Prize. He joins us to chat about his brand-new tour Are You Good? — asking whether any of us are really behaving ourselves. We kick things off with an ice-cold Daura Damm gluten-free beer. Although he may be aubergine-averse, Grayson loves crunch, and Angela obliges by serving a smashed cucumber and steak noodle salad. The cucumbers are bashed to soak up soy, sesame oil and rice wine vinegar, tossed with honey, and layered with ribbons of fried beef for maximum flavour. The dish is paired with a glass of Albert Road Pinot Noir. From an inherited family obsession with Marmite to his strict daily banana ritual, Grayson’s food stories are anything but ordinary. He even reveals the time he made Cilla Black a sandwich and, naturally, applies his artist’s eye to imagining the perfect pie.
