Protect your plates… There's a food shark in the studio! Actor, comedian, screenwriter and pizza’s biggest fan, Simon Pegg joins Nick and Angela this week to chat about his return as Danny Patrick, Director of Operations at GCHQ, in the second series of Channel 4’s The Undeclared War, returning to our screens from 21 July. As we discover throughout the episode, food has a funny way of following Simon throughout his career. From the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End), starring alongside longtime friend, Dish favourite, and Angela’s chopping arch-nemesis Nick Frost, and the legendary “pies in a bowl” that fuelled them both behind the scenes, to Mission: Impossible, where Simon has officially earned a place on Tom Cruise’s famous ‘cake list.’ Safe to say, he arrives with some excellent foodie credentials. There may be no pies in bowls or pizzas on today’s menu, but Angela more than makes up for it with Maunika Gowardhan’s recipe for ‘Andhra chintakaya chaap’; a rich, spiced lamb chop curry finished with fresh coriander and served alongside warm chapattis and parathas. The Waitrose wine experts pair it with Beaujolais Cuvée des Vignerons, a light-bodied red that happily keeps pace with the curry’s bold, warming flavours. As expected, Simon is excellent company around the Dish table. We hear stories from the set of Star Wars, what happened when he finally met childhood crush Carrie Fisher, and what it means to proudly belong to the “Nerd Trifecta”.
