Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is back in the spotlight, this time as an egg-freezing influencer. She shares vlogs of herself injecting hormones into her body to prepare her eggs to be harvested and frozen indefinitely. AOC believes that women are not taught enough about their bodies, and her hope is for her journey toward freezing her eggs to be an example of what it looks like to live a full and controlled life. Allie sheds light on the reasons why the process of egg harvesting is not healthy or empowering for women and presents the ethical issues that come with IVF. Allie also explains why AOC’s decision to freeze her eggs may not be as politically motivated as it appears, considering the ending of her engagement with Riley Roberts, with whom she was in a relationship with for over 15 years. Allie explains why AOC’s actions do not reflect an economic problem, but a cultural problem that elevates the desires of adults over the needs of children. While she is seeking to be relatable, the message and methods AOC is portraying as empowering are, in reality, damaging to women. Allie concludes the episode with a conversation with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, giving an update on the controversy of allowing men identifying as women into the organization.  Do you have a question for Allie?
