Lindsay Clancy holdout juror revelations are putting the jury room itself under a microscope after the murder trial ended in a mistrial. Eleven jurors were prepared to find Clancy not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, according to jurors who have spoken publicly, while one holdout refused to join them. Juror Nick Dargie told ABC News that the holdout sometimes scrolled on his phone during deliberations and could not point Dargie to testimony or evidence supporting his position. Dargie also said the man removed an exercise band that had been admitted as a trial exhibit, tied it around an empty water bottle, and pulled on it. Dargie said the moment shocked him and called the conduct disgusting. Foreperson Roni Carlson described a different moment that brought the jury close to a verdict. Carlson said the holdout admitted he had reasonable doubt. She began filling out all three verdict forms and signed them, believing the panel had reached unanimity. Carlson said he then refused to vote not guilty by reason of insanity. That conflict sits beside the instructions Judge William Sullivan gave the deadlocked jury. Jurors had to apply the Commonwealth's burden of proof, but the Tuey-Rodriguez instruction also reminded each juror not to abandon an honestly held belief merely to reach agreement. Sullivan questioned jurors after they complained that one member was not following the reasonable-doubt instruction, but the holdout remained and the mistrial followed on September 4, 2026.
