“I think the sort of broad takeaway is from where this started and what it was intended to do, we've deviated pretty wildly. And I think that this is a very important reset.”

A $100,000 application fee for H-1B visas would discourage abuse by IT consulting firms and incentivize companies to prioritize hiring Americans for high-skilled roles.

“I think by putting this $100,000 fee on it, you encourage the applications to go to the actual higher skilled, higher paid jobs where there's actually a shortage of Americans and you encourage US companies to try to fill those jobs with Americans first.”

The H-1B visa program needs reform to address the abuse of the system while still ensuring the U.S. attracts talented individuals necessary to compete in fields like artificial intelligence.

“There's definitely abuse. Uh second, it definitely needs to be corrected. The uh reality is that the some of the H-1B visa holders are uh being paid below market wages. Some of them are not going to super talented individuals or in the uh jobs that actually require a lot of skill.”

The purpose of visa programs should be to fill specialized jobs that cannot be filled by domestic workers, rather than just increasing immigration numbers.

“The purpose of these various visa programs is to bring people into the United States who have skills that are hard to find in the United States. You can't find an American to do the job, so you got to go bring someone in from elsewhere.”

The Trump administration intends to maintain the usage of visa programs while ensuring their integrity through rigorous vetting.

“Well, we're going to keep using our visa programs. We're just going to make sure that they have integrity. That we're actually doing the vetting of the individuals who come into this country.”
