Eli Roth argues that commercial shark fishing should be entirely prohibited because sharks are apex predators that maintain ocean health and are currently being overfished to dangerous levels.

“I'm saying we have to completely end shark fishing because now the beaches are closed because the algae is spreading it's a real problem and everyone is looking at the activists going you guys are crazy”

Shark fishing should be managed through science-based quotas rather than being entirely banned, provided the ecosystem can sustain the removal.

“I have no problem with you doing it you know like go for it because the population and the ecosystem can sustain the removal of 500 sharks a year”

Tim Dillon contends that public safety should be prioritized over shark conservation, suggesting that sharks should be viewed as threats that humans have a right to counter.

“My thing is like we need I think to really not let sharks intimidate us and we need to see them as a threat and counter that threat the same way we would counter a threat of China or our country”

He believes the establishment of a Marine Protected Area in Southern Baja would effectively protect wildlife from industrial fishing while preserving artisanal livelihoods.

“So the point here, and MPAs aren't even bad for industrial fishermen. It just means they have to pause in certain areas. But if you look at it, guess where a lot of the fishing fleet is near the Galapagos? They're right at the edge of the Galapagos National Park. Well, why is that?”

John Moore believes that he and his team had a moral imperative to intervene and save the sharks caught on the line to prevent them from dying.

“And we felt like, you know, if we didn't act, um yeah, these sharks would definitely die.”
