Democrats must fight back against Republican gerrymandering in blue states to avoid becoming a permanent minority.

“The fact that Polis didn't and doesn't understand that extremely simple concept is exactly why Democrats are in this position in the first place.”

California should implement a temporary, emergency redistricting plan to neutralize Republican gerrymandering efforts in other states.

“so on Monday, the legislature will introduce uh in both houses uh a constitutional amendment uh that includes new maps that will be done in a transparent way uh to request of the voters on a special election on November 4th to move forward with mid decade redistricting that in essence will neutraliz”

Democrats should engage in redistricting in states they control to compete with Republican efforts rather than taking the high road.

“It is my belief that it is not a time for Democrats to worry about optics, or try to take some sort of high road. they have no choice but to fight in the mud with Republicans. and I agree if they do not, they are then complicit.”

Democrats were correct to fight fire with fire by engaging in redistricting in response to the Republican-led effort.

“If you are going to take on fascism, you have to be willing to fight fire with fire. You have to use Everything Democrats are doing is legal. It is the we it is a maximum use of allowable political power. The way to fix unfair rules is to fix the rules, not just sit there and let your ass get beat.”

Mark Elias asserts that the redistricting ballot initiative in California is a critical political tool that, if successful, will serve as a model for other Democratic leaders to follow.

“if Gavin Newsome is able to show that doing what he did is not just good u uh sort of macro politics, but it's actually good local politics, like it's good for the elected officials that is going to cause other Democratic governors and elected leaders to to follow that.”

She argues that the current widespread mid-decade redistricting in Republican-dominated states is a form of authoritarianism intended to silence minority voters.

“So, what you're seeing right now happen is essentially watching reconstruction happen all over that a majority in a state is acting to silence the minority in the state. And that's the really big news, and you're going to see it happening across these Republican-dominated states.”

Gerrymandering is a form of cheating that represents the erosion of democracy.

“it's just the erosion of democracy and he thinks it's going to help him win a presidential election in 2028.”

The Texas redistricting map was manipulated improperly to favor Republicans using race as a primary factor, violating the law.

“The court found substantial evidence that the map was ra racially gerrymandered, meaning the state lawmakers manipulated these district lines with race as a predominant factor, not just partisanship.”

The speaker contends that partisan gerrymandering is inherently anti-democratic and should not be a legal practice.

“The idea that politicians should pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians, you know, is overwhelmingly rejected by people who just want a chance at fair representation in Congress”

The current Supreme Court's approach to gerrymandering is legally indefensible and constitutes a regressive era of political disenfranchisement.

“It is the most explicit expression of like um I don't know, the we're in a post-reconstruction era. Like, we're in a new Jim Crow type of of scenario.”

States should adopt independent redistricting commissions to ensure fairness and competitiveness in representative democracy.

“It's a kind of thing we should have in all 50 states across this country. We used a communitydriven approach. We e we received almost 40,000 pieces of community testimony from Californians far and wide. And we expanded opportunities for communities of color, communities that have long been historica”

Democrats should be consistent in their support for national reforms like banning gerrymandering regardless of political circumstances.

“I just think we should be consistent in the positions we hold on reform that sort of, you know, reforms corruption and rigged system and gives people more of a voice and like yeah, we're for ending gerrymandering everywhere.”

The United States needs independent redistricting commissions established by national law to prevent partisan map manipulation.

“There ought to be an independent commission or independent commissions in every state. we we need a national law that allows that to happen.”

Democrats should employ mutually assured destruction by having blue states implement independent redistricting commissions if red states continue to use partisan gerrymandering.

“I think that states uh blue states should say they're going to implement independent commissions when Texas does. You know, I don't think that you get to national uh ends to gerrymandering by blue states just signing up to do it and red states not having to pay any kind of a cost for continued gerry”

Colorado should maintain its independent, non-partisan redistricting commission rather than engage in partisan map drawing.

“In our state, and and I supported this, the voters passed a constitutional amendment that took redistricting out of the hands of politicians, out of the hands of the legislature, out of the hands of the governor, and constitutionally put it with a non-partisan redistricting commission.”

State-led political gerrymandering is a standard part of the American political process and is not inherently illegal.

“There is truly no great substitute for gerrymandering, political gerrymandering, where the state legislature or state commission or another body draws the districts within a state. And there's nothing wrong with that.”

He claims that the left is falsely blaming Republican successes on gerrymandering to manipulate the public, while the redistricting process actually benefits the Democratic Party disproportionately.

“The left is trying to gaslight you into believing that Republicans, conservatives are only winning because of redistricting and gerrymandering. It's something that a lot of people have asked me to explain. So, we'll take some time to do it today, but I will tell you this, Marley was dead to begin wi”

The recent court rulings on redistricting have improved the GOP's chances of maintaining or growing their majority in the midterms.

“Now that we are looking because of the Virginia Supreme Court decision, the US Supreme Court decision, redistricting going on around the country, we are looking at a potential gain of 14 congressional seats for Republicans.”

The Republican party is finally moving on the offensive regarding redistricting after historically playing defense.

“Republicans historically in the past have been very weak on actually making inroads in progress. They tend to be playing defense all the time. And now, for the first time, at least in my it feels like in my living memory, that they're actually going on the offensive.”
