The Obama-era Iran nuclear deal was a good framework that represented a constructive step toward normalizing relations with a long-term adversary.

“I think it was. I thought it was a good framework. Um, some people claim that there were not enough inspections or something, but everything I looked up it seems like for the most part that was a good for the most part it was a good meme”

There is no reason to be optimistic about the current nuclear talks with Iran because President Trump seems inclined to use force.

“I mean, I don't think that I would put too much stock in it in the sense that when President Trump has two carriers off the coast or, you know, within striking range of Iran. It usually means he's going to use force just based on past recent experience of Venezuela.”

The JCPOA was an effective mechanism to put Iran's nuclear program in a box and prevent them from producing nuclear weapon material.

“The deeper irony, of course, is that we never should have been in this position uh in so far as the agreement that President Obama reached, the Iran nuclear deal, the so-called JCPOA, um put Iran's nuclear program in a box.”
