Erico Montalvo believes the justice system is skewed by biased media narratives that portray him as a dangerous gang member and the victim as a hero, regardless of the truth.

“Fallen soldier slain by gang member. They wasn't even calling me black, I'm not black. I'm not black, I'm Dominican. I'm Dominican and Puerto Rican. You know what I'm saying? So they're telling the story without even knowing the story, and it's hurting me.”

The failure to solve Aubrey Dameron's case is due to systemic discrimination against her as a transgender person and an Indigenous individual.

“um and honestly Aubrey who we're going to be talking about was absolutely discriminated against and I think that's I I'm confident that that is why her case has not been solved to this day because it seems pretty obvious”

Law enforcement in rural Oklahoma prioritizes cases based on the perceived social status or character of the victim rather than doing their job.

“and to be fair her mother and her mother's boyfriend definitely look suspicious here because they delayed yeah in reporting her missing and so there's definitely something going on there I think they've had a hand not being solved as well due to lack of cooperation and lack of care absolutely”

The foster care system often fails to protect children and can instead expose them to further secondary abuse and neglect.

“There was never a group home that I went to that that it didn't happen >> or or foster home. >> Oh my. And you know what's sick is, you know, a lot, like you said, a lot of these people, they're probably signing up for this because they know >> that they can get a waiver. It's easy.”

She believes the failure to protect her family was caused by repeated errors within the law enforcement and legal systems rather than a single oversight.

“This wasn't one human error two months before this happened. This wasn't one human error the night that it happened. This was error upon error upon misstep upon misstep the entire way through.”
