Kyle confirms that he lost irreplaceable data like family and pet photos because they were not backed up in time before the fire.

“I did lose some data. Yeah, I had a lot of it backed up in the cloud, but there were a couple items that uh I was unable to manually back up in time and that was kind of a bummer. Just like family photos, photos of, you know, me and the girlfriend, the cats, um just, you know, stuff that's irreplace”

The host claims that having a 321 backup strategy ensures at least one copy of data is kept offsite in case of a disaster.

“You should have at least three copies of any critical data across two different mediums, and one of them should be offsite in a separate location.”

A key component of incident response is digital forensics, which involves building a timeline of system activity to correlate file changes with network connections.

“Then you use tooling uh like you build a timeline of all the files that have been created, modified, accessed on the disk and you you correlate that with the time of connection to the commander control server and say okay what files were created or touched uh around the time that the connection star”

The host argues that humans are inherently emotional beings who prioritize feelings and storytelling over logic and statistics when forming opinions.

“People responded emotionally instead of to logic and so when you say that you need to lead with better policies and stuff it kind of goes it stands in the face of all of this like psychological research I've been reading that says in fact people are illogical emotional beings”

She acknowledges that while the mantra of possessions being 'just stuff' is true, it is necessary to process the loss of one's home as a genuine emotional experience.

“I think too there's a a mantra everyone has now which is correct which is oh it's just stuff and as long as we're okay and as long as my family's okay and that's true but you also have to acknowledge it's a loss oh it's a loss because there it's not so much the stuff itself it's what it signifies”
