Religion is a human construct that can be used to justify entitlement and feelings of superiority over others.

“I'm against using faith for cruelty. I'm I'm against spirituality as being a cloaking device for douchebaggery.”

He maintains that because Christian nationalist ideology is used to justify harmful policies and actions, it must be directly challenged and eradicated from political life.

“You're dealing with people who think that Democrats are literally demonic. That that women are ruining the country and that they have a God-given right to take over. You can't negotiate with that. You can't compromise with that. You can only stand against it and eradicate it from politics.”

Religion is being strategically mobilized by those in power to replace a genuine belief in civic identity and democratic principles.

“if you're using religion in a sense, you're using that in the way that they're using it to put on a show, to have a pageant, you're using that to replace what we should and most of us are all owning, which is our belief in what the country stands for.”

Jordan Peterson views the separation of church and state as a fundamental political and psychological necessity for distinguishing separate domains of existence.

The current political divide is worsened by the tendency of some groups to use the state to impose their specific moral and religious visions on others.

“But for a pope, it's more important that he gets the issues of life, marriage, and sexual morality right because those issues are more fundamental.”

Religious leaders should avoid political intervention unless it is unavoidable, as staying separate can lead them to become tools of the political environment.

“First of all, my first rule is don't unless you can't avoid it. Historically, judges that go in for what's called pietism, so you know, there's the spiritual world and there's the physical world and you keep the two strictly separate. Um end up as tools of uh the current political environment.”

Religious leaders should focus on their religious duties rather than participating in political matters.

“So, just keep his nose in the church's business and stay out of the political arena.”
