Being the only black filmmaker in the room provides a unique perspective that offers a professional advantage.

“I'm the only person that looks like me in that room. But that's an advantage. Because I have a perspective that nobody else in that room has and they can't debate that with me.”

She demands that the industry move beyond tokenism and provide meaningful representation for South Asian stories.

“And suddenly, if you're a writer that isn't willing to add true diversity, not token diversity, to your scripts, no one's going to want to work with you cuz the world's changing.”
