Democrats are successfully framing the government shutdown as a fight over making healthcare more affordable, and they should not fold because they are winning the public perception battle.

“They have very successfully made this shutdown entirely about making health care more affordable. That is like that that is that is a political win, right?”

Dave Rubin criticizes Democratic Representative Katherine Clark for suggesting that the hardship caused by government shutdowns is an acceptable trade-off for political leverage.

“Is that what you just said? Did you just say what I think you just said that the shutdowns are terrible and it's going to hurt some people, but that's when you get leverage? I mean, it's that might be politically true, but to say that about your own constituents”

The deal to end the government shutdown was a surrender by national Democrats who possessed the leverage to secure better protections for working people and should not have conceded without achieving

“And so the fact that national Democrats let him off the hook and didn't get anything in return to me just feels like uh political and legislative malpractice.”

Josh Johnson believes that government shutdowns and the subsequent lack of pay for federal workers like TSA agents make airports chaotic and stressful environments.

“They're just going to like chuck I don't know. It'd be fun if there's a little war between ICE and the TSA.”

A government shutdown has limited aggregate economic impact.

“So you know that's point at that time that was 0.02% of GDP. So overall I'm I'm not you know I'm not here to say the sky is falling that the shutdown will have limited impacts.”
