Caleb Flynn told Detective Mike Morgan his marriage had no problems — “none whatsoever.” The problem for that answer is what the jury heard next: more than 100,000 messages between Flynn and Alleigha Botner, including months of divorce promises, resentment toward Ashley Flynn, and repeated statements about wanting her gone. This combined episode puts the text-message relationship and the police interview side by side. Botner testified that Flynn repeatedly promised to leave Ashley, then moved the deadline. In one exchange, Flynn described what he said he was willing to sacrifice to be with Botner — his job, his home, even time with his daughters — before telling her he needed one thing from her to prove she would do anything for love. He also wrote that he was “not trying to manipulate” her. Hours after Ashley was found shot in her bed, Flynn sat down with Detective Morgan. His phone contained no messages from Ashley. Flynn said he routinely deleted texts to save storage. He volunteered two strangers as possible suspects, pointed to church as part of the family picture, and said there were no marital problems. Flynn maintained at trial that an intruder killed Ashley and that his ugly messages to Botner did not prove murder. On September 29, 2026, a Miami County jury rejected that defense and found him guilty on all charged counts and firearm specifications. Sentencing is set for October 5. The question now is not whether those messages existed. It is what they revealed about the story Flynn was telling before, during, and after Ashley’s death.
