In this episode, Pete and Kate explore all of it joy without guarantees, the prosperity gospel's hollow promises, what it means to grieve well, how to hold faith when explanations stop working, and why being "joyful anyway" is an act of genuine courage rather than denial. Pete brings his own deep well of spiritual curiosity and hard-won humor, and Kate matches him beat for beat with fierce clarity, sacred irreverence, and the kind of honesty that makes you feel less alone. This one hits. Kate's brand new book, Joyful, Anyway, released April 7, 2026 her most personal and practical work yet, revealing the surprising magic of joy and how we can access it even when happiness feels completely out of reach. She is also the host of Everything Happens, an award-winning podcast released twice monthly on Lemonada Media, where she talks with funny and wise people about living with the knowledge that, well, everything happens. Her previous books Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I've Loved), No Cure for Being Human, The Lives We Actually Have, and Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel have transformed the way millions of people think about suffering, faith, and what it means to be alive. 📖 Read Joyful, Anyway Kate's new book, available now 🎙️ Listen to Everything Happens with Kate Bowler on Spotify, Apple Podcasts & Lemonada Media 🌐 Visit katebowler.com for books, events, and resources 📝 Read Kate's Substack at katebowler.substack.com 📲 Follow @katecbowler on Instagram, YouTube & social media 🎧 Subscribe to You Made It Weird for new episodes every week. #KateBowler #YouMadeItWeird #PeteHolmes #JoyfulAnyway #EverythingHappens #ComedyPodcast #Faith #Spirituality #ChristianPodcast #Grief #ToxicPositivity #NYTBestseller ===================================================================== SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Thank you VITA COCO for being our official ON SET BEVERAGE Get 25% off and get Vita Coco shipped to your door by using code WEIRD20 https://vitacoco.com BETTER HELP GET 10% OFF YOUR 1ST MONTH http://betterhelp.com/weirdo 3 DAY BLINDS BUY ONE GET ONE FOR 50% OFF http://3dayblinds.com/weird CASPER GET 20% OFF YOUR ORDER http://casper.com ARTICLE GET $50 OFF YOUR 1ST ORDER OF $100 OR MORE http://article.com/weird
