"You cannot understand Russia with the intellect ... In her you can only believe." John emphasises how Russian faith follows heart rather than head - and self-sacrifice is esteemed beyond self-interest. This tends to a non-judgemental acceptance of higher authority - not like the West at all. In this episode of the 'Inside Story' series exploring more deeply the 'windows of realisation' in John's most popular book 'Wonders of Spiritual Unfoldment' (Chapter 14), he tells of the cataclysm that befell the church under Communism - and how his mother lived naturally close to God.
