Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without parole on October 5 after a Miami County jury convicted him on all nine counts in the killing of his wife, Ashley Flynn. At sentencing, he apologized to his family but continued to deny that he killed her. Then came the statements from the two daughters who lost their mother and their father in the same case. Relatives read their words in court. One daughter told Flynn he had already caused enough pain and said she did not plan to visit him in prison. The other asked what Ashley had ever done to make him hate her so much and pressed him to admit what he had done. Prosecutors argued Flynn shot Ashley twice in the head while she slept in their Tipp City home and staged the scene to look like a break-in. The jury rejected his defense after about two and a half hours of deliberation. At trial, jurors also heard about Flynn's affair with Alleigha Botner and more than 107,000 messages exchanged between them, including messages prosecutors used to argue he had been thinking about Ashley's death long before the shooting. This combined episode looks at both sides of the sentencing moment: the family confronting Flynn in open court, and the psychology behind a man who had divorce available but, according to the prosecution's case accepted by the jury, chose a far more destructive path instead. Bob Motta and Robin Dreeke examine the behavior, the double life, and what the refusal to admit guilt means after the verdict is already in.
