Chinese ingredients tend to have less active ingredient and more water. 06:55 Moisture and heat accelerate degradation. Keep the desiccant in your supplement bottle. 07:33 New packaging is being designed that builds the desiccant into the plastic of the bottle/vial. 09:53 Humidity and temperature control are key in manufacturing quality. 10:47 There are about 1,000 supplement manufacturers in the US and the number seems to double every year. 11:40 The FDA is shutting down small garage style shops with the 483 inspections. 13:25 Finished product testing, does not include every ingredient on an ongoing basis. 16:40 FDA requires that identification testing and content/quality testing be done on any new component coming into the manufacturing facility. It is also required to do a full assay of the product at least 3 lots/year. 20:30 Residual solvents used in the extraction process of herbs are detected in testing. 21:06 Magnesium stearate is used to reduce friction and heat in manufacturing. Magnesium stearate is the most common fatty acid on the planet. 21.38 Natural fat is used to lubricate high speed machines. Friction must be reduced. 23:46 Controlling humidity for an entire facility adds about $50,000 per month to the cost of production. 27:25 The alu alu blister packs are aluminum with nitrogen shot between the layers. There is no air or moisture with the product, which is sealed away from the aluminum by plastic. 28:49 HDPE bottles are better than a box, but not much. Glass is good, but humid air is introduced when the lid is removed. 31:15 If you have a product that is clumping or shrinking in a capsule, moisture has invaded and likely less than label claim in potency. 34:36 The shelf life for supplements is 2 years from manufacture. With probiotics or unstable products, shelf life is about 18 months to 2 years. Overage is added to compensate for die off. 36:06 MCT oil powder will have less fat than MCT oil. 38:44 Daniel makes his own pre and post-workout supplement powders fresh every day. He uses nootropics and caffeine to pre-workout. 43:27 Daniel has been low carb for about 3 years. He has more energy for CrossFit and endurance activities.
