Half of Nick Reiner’s trust came due on his thirtieth birthday — September 14th, 2023. The trust itself reportedly calls the distribution “mandatory and unconditional.” That was twenty-seven months before Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home. The money never came. And nobody — not the 136-page probate petition, not the reporting — has explained why his parents didn’t pay him while they were alive. Defense attorney and former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis walks through the entire Reiner trust war end to end. The petition’s central claim: the money was already Nick’s before anyone died. The presumption-of-innocence argument that the trust belongs to him until a jury says otherwise — he has pleaded not guilty to both murder counts. The procedural revelation that an unopposed petition could reportedly be granted without a hearing. And the declaration from Alan Jackson’s firm stating they are “ready, willing, and able” to return to the case the moment the trust money is released — after walking away when the funds collapsed. Then the counterpunch. The trustee who questioned Nick’s judgment and quit. The incoming fiduciary — Jodi Montgomery, Britney Spears’ former conservator — already reportedly asking to meet Nick in jail. California’s slayer statute and the two ways it doesn’t work the way most people assume. Whether Jake and Romy Reiner can stop any of it. And the question hanging over this case that no court can answer: why were Rob and Michele still holding money their own trust called mandatory? Faddis also turns to South Carolina, where the Murdaugh retrial has its new judge — and her reported history with the defense attorney raises questions both sides have chosen not to address.
