Caleb Flynn was convicted on all nine charges after jurors heard a case built around his own words, his digital devices, and the State's argument that he staged an intruder story after killing Ashley Flynn. The jury deliberated for a little more than two hours before returning guilty verdicts, including aggravated murder. Sentencing is set for October 5. Prosecutors showed jurors 107,000 messages between Flynn and Alleigha Botner, the young church intern with whom he had an affair. Thirty-four books filled three cardboard boxes. The messages included Flynn writing that he was thinking of ways to kill Ashley without going to jail. Investigators also testified about data recovered from his phone, Apple Watch, AirPods, and other devices after apps had been deleted. The State argued that Flynn wanted to keep every part of his life: his daughters, his job, his church identity, and Botner. That is where psychotherapist Shavaun Scott's analysis comes in. Scott joins Tony Brueski to explain how entitlement, compartmentalization, intermittent reinforcement, and sunk-cost thinking can keep a secret relationship alive long after its promises stop making sense. Scott's commentary is psychological analysis, not evidence the jury considered. The jury heard the messages, testimony, surveillance evidence, device data, and the competing intruder theory. The defense argued that infidelity and ugly texts were not proof of murder and called no witnesses. This combined episode puts those two layers side by side: what the jury actually saw, and what Scott says the relationship pattern may help explain about the choices behind it.
