Eight days before her three children died, Lindsay Clancy told her doctors what was happening inside her head. Whatever that warning was, it's now sitting at the center of a trial that's already structured to end badly no matter what eighteen jurors decide. Both sides agree on the facts. Lindsay Clancy killed five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan in their Duxbury home. The prosecution says she mapped her husband's errand route on Apple Maps, timed the window, and used exercise bands with intent. ADA Jennifer Sprague's framing is blunt: she created it. The defense says a mother on thirteen psychiatric medications in four months, who'd already been to the ER and admitted to McLean Hospital, wasn't capable of criminal responsibility when it happened. Then there's the whiteboard. Intubated after the incident and unable to speak, Lindsay Clancy was handed a dry-erase board, and the first thing she wrote raises a question this case still hasn't answered. Patrick Clancy is on both witness lists. The prosecution is calling him first. He's also expected to testify for the defense, has filed a malpractice suit against her doctors, and has publicly said he wasn't married to a monster. The judge denied a request to split the trial into two phases, which means one jury has to weigh premeditation and psychosis in the same breath. We go through the Andrea Yates precedent, where one jury convicted and a second jury acquitted on nearly identical facts, and why Massachusetts law puts the burden on the prosecution to prove she was sane, not the other way around. Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down what that legal standard actually demands. Two juries have already looked at facts like these and reached opposite conclusions. This one still has to pick a side. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
