Richard Allen spent thirteen months in a solitary cell at Westville Correctional Facility before he was ever tried for the Delphi murders, and on September 21, 2026, the State of Indiana had to describe that cell to three appeals judges. The word its lawyer chose for it runs through this whole breakdown. This is the full Indiana Court of Appeals hearing on Allen's appeal, with defense attorney Bob Motta, clip by clip. Allen is serving 130 years for killing Abby Williams and Libby German on the Monon High Bridge trail in February 2017. The state counted 61 incriminating statements from him in the spring of 2023, all made inside that unit. The hearing broke into three fights. First, the cell: what the prison's own psychiatrist found on April 14, 2023, and why the defense calls that coercion even though no detective ever interrogated Allen. The state's defense of holding him past Indiana's 30-day limit for seriously mentally ill inmates is part of that fight. Second, the other man: Brad Holder, investigated in 2017 and never charged, whose hand tattoo and social media posts the defense wanted in front of the jury, and the landfill time card the state says rules him out. Third, what's left without the confessions: one unfired cartridge, an eyewitness sketch the jury never saw, and Allen's own 2017 statement that he was on the trail, which the state calls its most powerful evidence. He also covers harmless error, which can save a conviction even when a judge got something wrong. The panel took the case under advisement.
