A ten-question screen exists to catch postpartum mood disorders before they turn into emergencies. A nurse practitioner gave it to Lindsay Clancy in November 2022 and she scored 23 out of 30. The psychiatric hospital that admitted her weeks later never administered it. This is the full conversation between Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, all three parts together. Her plea is not guilty on three counts of first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of her three children. That she caused their deaths is conceded. Reddington's case is that postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder answer for what happened. Prosecutors contend the killings were intentional and rationally executed. Part one takes apart the illness. A 2017 review in BMC Psychiatry puts postpartum psychosis at about one or two births in a thousand. Shavaun separates it from psychopathy, marks where an intrusive thought becomes a command voice, and answers whether somebody can present as organized and still be seriously ill. Part two goes at the clinicians. Dr. Jennifer Tufts treated Clancy across fourteen video appointments and never met her in person, and testified she never requested records from her other providers. Dr. Alia Goodheart, who oversaw the McLean discharge, testified she had not seen a single such patient. Part three lands on bipolar disorder — named by a nurse practitioner in 2022, ruled out by a psychiatrist because Clancy never had mania, and written on the discharge paperwork as major depressive disorder, severe, without psychotic features. Before all of it, Labor and delivery was her professional world. Liability is contested by both physicians. Julie Paul launched the perinatal program at South Shore Hospital in 2018 and saw Clancy for roughly ten days before leaving for another job. Clancy's lawsuit says a Columbia psychiatrist later diagnosed bipolar disorder with psychosis after eight hours of evaluation. A wheelchair is how she appears in court each day.
