Lindsay Clancy's murder trial hit a moment even the courtroom wasn't braced for. Jurors cried this week as the medical examiner described injuries consistent with asphyxia in two of her three children. Clancy broke down at the defense table, telling the room she couldn't go through it. The judge called multiple recesses. Her own attorney, who'd spent three hours dismantling her psychiatrist days earlier, didn't ask the medical examiner a single question. Then there's the detail nobody's been able to shake: her husband, Patrick Clancy, took the stand and described the morning their three children died in a way that split the room in half. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at their Duxbury home. She admits to the killings but says she was in the grip of undiagnosed postpartum psychosis after being handed thirteen psychiatric medications from five different prescribers in four months — none of whom had her full picture. One provider allegedly refused to treat her. A nurse practitioner told her what she was feeling was "quite common." Her journal entries, now read into the record, track a woman watching herself disappear. Bob Motta was ten feet away in that courtroom, watching a jury weigh a mother's grief against a prosecutor's theory that none of it was real. This episode lays out what happened in that room, what the medical record actually shows, and why one sentence from her husband is the hardest thing in this case to explain.
