He stood in front of Congress and lobbied for the protection of American children. He gave speeches about family values at the highest levels of conservative politics. He was the executive director of the Family Research Council's political action committee. And then federal investigators found what was on his work computer. This week's look back at the most gripping stories in true crime examines the final chapters of Hidden Killers' five-part Duggar series — from Josh Duggar's rise through conservative Washington to his federal sentencing, and then the full accounting of what this family, this system, and this institution built and protected over three generations. Josh Duggar's 2008 TLC wedding was a television event. By 2015, a civil lawsuit alleging serious misconduct had been settled without court adjudication, his prior conduct toward minors became public, and the Ashley Madison data breach revealed a paid account on a platform designed for extramarital affairs. He resigned from FRC Action and publicly called himself the biggest hypocrite ever. In April 2021, federal agents arrested him at his home. His wife was seven months pregnant with their seventh child. At trial, the investigating agent testified the material found on Josh's work computer included images of children as young as eighteen months old — some of the most serious content the agent had encountered in his career. December 2021: guilty. May 2022: sentenced to approximately twelve and a half years. Appeal denied. Currently incarcerated in Texas. While Josh awaited trial, Jim Bob Duggar announced an Arkansas State Senate campaign. Platform: pro-family. He finished third. Then came Joseph. Arrested in March 2026 on felony charges after a now-14-year-old victim disclosed alleged molestation during a 2020 family vacation. According to the arrest affidavit, he allegedly admitted to the conduct twice — once to the victim's father, once with a detective listening. He faces transfer to Florida. He is presumed innocent. The full accounting: Gothard — more than 34 accusers, zero criminal charges, still online at 91. Josh's earliest victims — no prosecution for those specific acts. Jim Bob — a federal judge called his sworn testimony not credible in writing, no legal consequences. IBLP — never charged, still exists. One system. One family. Decades of silence.
